Sometimes called Costa Rica’s Yellowstone, Rincón de la Vieja National Park is known for volcanic activity including fumaroles, bubbling mud pots and geysers, as well as its beautiful waterfalls and hot springs.A popular hike is the 3-km/2-mile Las Pailas loop trail, which takes you past many of the park’s geothermal features. A longer hike (5 km/3 miles) leads to the impressive 40-meter/130-foot La Cangreja Waterfall. Adventure opportunities abound at nearby Hacienda Guachipelín, including zip-lining, whitewater tubing, horseback riding and canyoning.
